SQL Workshop
This workshop introduces you to SQL, a powerful language originally designed for managing and querying relational databases and now widely used across data applications. You’ll learn what a relational database is and master the basics of SQL syntax for retrieving data with queries. Taking a hands-on approach, the workshop gives you plenty of opportunities to practise writing and running SQL queries through practical exercises.
What To Prepare
In this workshop, we will mostly use Google Colab as our coding environment. Google Colab is a hosted Jupyter Notebook service that requires no setup to use and provides free access to computing resources.
Please make sure you have a Google account and can access Google Colab. If you have not used Google Colab before, please go through the three Colab tutorials below to get familiar with the environment.
If you want to get a head start on SQL before the workshop, you can work through the following online course. (It is not required, but it will help you get more out of the workshop.)
This online course is available through LinkedIn Learning. You can get free access to LinkedIn Learning by applying for a Toronto Public Library (TPL) card, and login LinkedIn Learning via its TPL get-started page. (You can get a TPL Digital Access Card without even visiting a library branch.)
